Android is well-known for its advanced customization options. To make your device more personalized, you may quickly change its font size and style from built-in settings. However, not all Android devices offer you to adjust all font settings. For instance, you are only allowed to change font size on Pixel devices.

If you’re in this situation, you may wonder how to change the font on your Android phone. Don’t worry! In this blog, I’ll show you how to change font settings on Android devices, and you can customize your device’s font style using a third-party launcher. Let’s get started.

How to change font settings on Pixel

As I mentioned earlier, Google Pixel devices lack built-in options to tweak font styles. It uses the default Roboto font, which is designed to be compatible with all the apps and features of the device. So, you can adjust the font size and bold the text.

  1. Go to Settings on your device.
  2. Tap Display → Select Display size and text.

Changing fonts on other Android devices may vary depending on the manufacturer.

If you want more personalization, you may get help from Android launchers. Let’s learn how:

Use a launcher to change the font

Launcher apps help to change the appearance and functionality of your home screen, app drawer, and widgets. A few external launcher apps also support font customization. I have demonstrated the process using Smart Launcher 6.

  1. Open the launcher’s settings by long pressing on the homepage.
  2. Tap Global appearance.
  3. Select Font.

  4. You’ll find two options:
    • Title font: Here, you can select the font you wish to have for prominent texts on a screen, like headings.

    • Body font: For inside content, tap the Body font and choose the typeface you wish to have.

You can also change font style on Android using a third-party font app like FontFix or iFont. Depending on the device and the font app that you’re using, you may be able to adjust font style across your device. However, font apps, in general, require root access.

Rooting your device can void your warranty, expose your device to security risks, and cause compatibility issues with some apps. So, I don’t advise rooting your device.

What are the default fonts in Android?

Roboto is Android’s default font, a sans-serif designed by Google. Since Android version 4.0, it has been the default font.

What is the best launcher to change font style?

The best launcher to change the font style might vary from person to person as per their preferences. However, some popular options include Nova Launcher, GO Launcher, Action Launcher, and Smart Launcher 6. While some of these launchers help you customize font colors and sizes, others let you choose from amongst various fonts.

Can you change the font size on an Android phone?

Yes, you can. In fact, Android devices have built-in settings options to change the size of the font. Go to Settings > Display > Display size and text > Font size. Tap (+) to increase the font size, and (-) to decrease it.
